The bid for the joint City-Chamber web site up date was approved by the City Commission last Thursday and Video Ideas in Chattanooga will rebuild the site on the City/Chamber current address. This reconstruction will be in two phases and when completed contain video with sound and be in HD format. Links to all existing sites will be continued with new links added that should make us easily found from any location Phase one should be viewable in about four weeks.
The Chamber would like to thank Putnam- Standefer-Reed Funeral Home and Win-Bob Restaurant for the supplies and equipment used by LaVaughn Turner and Bobby Perkins last Saturday in cleaning the entire tile floor of our chamber building. They stripped and waxed the tile. We thought this job would take a couple hours but took almost all day. Volunteers help the chamber in many ways and we appreciate the support.
The South East Development District announced that available monies are now in place for recreation projects and County Executive Michael Hudson is seeking funds to re-condition the tennis courts at the county park.
The Car show sponsored by the cancer support group was a big success they had over 120 cars to register and sold lots of food. Cora Cookston stated they made $4,055.00 at this event.
The Coke Ovens Blue Grass Festival was very successful and funds will be used to expand and improve the site by adding a Farm Museum with displays.

The Chamber of Commerce has received information concerning an automobile company called “Any Credit Car Sales” that is supposed to be located here in Dunlap. They listed the address, 92 Resource Road, Dunlap, Tennessee. The address belongs to Citizens Tri-County Bank branch office near Sequachee Valley Electric. Also, two individuals names were given to us. We believe it is a scam and the Dunlap City police office is involved. Anyone that might be aware of any connections please call the Chamber office 949-7608 or the Dunlap City Police Department 949-3319.
A new small business has opened in the downtown area the City’s first street vendor that will have regular hours. It is called Daddy Dog and will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 and are currently located in the parking lot between Johnson Oil distributor and Citizens Tri-County Bank.
A new project has begun that is an attempt to identify all members of Sequatchie County High School graduating seniors from 1916 until present. The information that will be included is to be gathered from friends and family and will consist of occupation, location, certification or degree, living or deceased and if available a current email address. This information will be shared with the alumni association, school system, local historical association and Chamber of Commerce. The Sequatchie County Singing Indians have recorded a new CD. Copies are available at the chamber office and other locations around town.
This past week County Executive Michael Hudson, City Mayor Dwain Land, and I met with a representative from a company in China that is interested in locating their company in this region. We expressed our eagerness to comply with their needs and working every way possible to make them want to establish our county as one of their plant locations.

The Sequatchie Leadership Class enjoyed their final session on May 19th. The class received information from several speakers for this session which is on State Government Agencies. Our special speaker was Dr. Diane Boothe, Dean of Education of Boise State University of Boise, Idaho. There were fourteen students that graduated and received framed certificates with a catered lunch served by Ann Smith. One of the leadership projects announced that they had collected over $900.00 that was presented to the Library. The following donors were Steve & Susan Greer, Dr. Oscar Scruggs, Blue Orchid Bistro, Grant & Philyaw, Walters Flowers, Mountain Valley Bank, Citizens Tri-County Bank, Happy Bottom Office Services, NHC and the chamber staff. The total project from the Library to the students will provide books for over 400 children.
The chamber will start planning for a new Leadership Class for 2010-2011which will begin in September. Anyone interested in being part of the class notify the chamber office at 949-7608.
The chamber has received a computer work station that includes Skype that will enable students to interact through computer video from Tennessee Small Business Development Center. This center is designed to help people that are seeking jobs and information about business. We have established an office in the chamber building and we will provide information and schedules upon completion of the grant application with funding. Schedules and information will be available in a few weeks.
Sequatchie County High School honors night was celebrated with approximately two million scholarships and cash awards given to the deserving SCHS seniors. Local businesses and individuals gave $33,800 in cash awards to selected students. With economic times as difficult are this is a strong statement from our community for the future of our area.
