ARRESTS

 

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

 

An investigation involving the vandalism of several local business locations and residences led to the arrest of Eric A Woodard, 20 years of age of Whitwell, TN. During the early morning hours of Sunday, December 6, 2009, Woodard, along with two other subjects, vandalized several different locations in Dunlap and the rural areas of both Sequatchie and Marion Counties. The vandalism consisted of shooting stores, residences and vehicles with pink paint balls.

 

During the investigation Woodard was identified as a suspect and upon being interviewed he confessed to taking part in the vandalism. The two other subjects involved currently reside in Virginia and were visiting Woodard on the weekend of the incident. Charges are still pending against these two individuals.

 

Woodard was arrested and transported to the Sequatchie County Justice Center. He is charged with vandalism and is scheduled to appear in Dunlap Municipal Court on January 28th, 2010. Investigating the incident was Dunlap Police Detective Cody Smith.

 

 

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

 

At approximately 9:30 P.M. Dunlap Police Officer Lynn Lewis responded to a shoplifting complaint at Wal-Mart on Rankin Avenue in Dunlap. It was reported that an individual had stolen two 24 packs of Bud Light beer from the store.

 

Upon arriving at Wal-Mart, the officer observed a male subject walking with beer near the business. The male subject was identified as Buddy L Duke, 22 years of age of Whitwell, TN. Duke was found to be intoxicated and was in possession of the stolen beer from Wal-Mart. Duke was arrested for public intoxication and theft under $500.00. Officers transported Duke to the Sequatchie County Justice Center and he is scheduled to appear in Dunlap Municipal Court on January 12th, 2010.

At approximately 3:30 P.M. Dunlap Police Officer Mark Fyfe responded to O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on Rankin Avenue in Dunlap on a complaint of items being stolen from two separate unlocked vehicles. Upon arrival the vehicle owners reported to the officer that unknown person(s) had stolen items from inside their vehicles.

 

The items stolen were $10.00 in change, clothing items and approximately eight music CD’s. The theft is believed to have occurred between 1:00 P.M. and 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009.

ARRESTS

 

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

 

At approximately 7:40 P.M. Dunlap Police Sergeant Keith Land responded to the Dollar General Store on Hwy 127 in Dunlap on a shoplifting complaint. The suspects had left the business prior to the officer’s arrival, but after reviewing the surveillance video, officers were able to identify the two male subjects and that they had taken some items without paying for them.

 

Officers located the two suspects at a residence on Hook Street in Dunlap. The two suspects both admitted to officers that they had taken the items and the items were then returned to the officers. The stolen property consisted of cold and flu medicine valued at $8.00.

 

Arrested were Timothy Allen Smith, 35 years of age of Dunlap and Brandon Lee Copeland, 19 years of age of Dunlap. Both men were transported to the Sequatchie County Justice Center and charged with theft under $500.00. They are scheduled to appear in Dunlap Municipal Court on December 8th, 2009.

 

 

Thursday, December 3, 2009

 

At approximately 8:10 A.M. Dunlap Police Officers responded to the area of Russell Street in Dunlap where it was reported that an individual, whom there were active arrest warrants for, was walking down the street. The wanted individual was reported as being Jared Welch, 21 years of age of Dunlap. Welch was wanted on theft and failure to appear charges through Sequatchie County General Sessions Court.

 

Officers located Welch at a residence near Russell Drive in Cutlass Trailer Park. Upon observing the officers, Welch fled on foot through an open field to North Town Apartments located near the intersection of Russell Street and Hartman Circle. While at the apartment complex, Welch illegally entered an apartment and officers located him attempting to hide under a bed. Welch was arrested and while being searched by officers, was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was transported to the Sequatchie County Justice Center without further incident.

 

In addition to the General Sessions Court charges, Welch was also charged with evading arrest, aggravated burglary and possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to appear in Dunlap Municipal Court on December 17th, 2009. Officers involved in the incident were Dunlap Police Lieutenant Coy Swanger, Patrolman Kevin Snyder and Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Harvey.

 

 

Friday, December 4, 2009

 

At approximately 12:05 A.M. officers of the Dunlap Police Department and T.B.I. Drug Investigation Division responded to the residence of Darryl L Pursley, 252 Oak Street in Dunlap. Officers responded to the residence as a result of investigation leads involving the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

 

Upon searching the house, officers did locate precursors, ingredients and equipment utilized in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Officers also discovered Pursley to be illegally in possession of a firearm.

 

Pursley, 32 years of age, was arrested and transported to the Sequatchie County Justice Center. He is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and illegal possession of a firearm. Pursley is scheduled to appear in Sequatchie County General Sessions Court on December 15th, 2009.

Friday, December 4, 2009

 

At approximately 8:40 P.M. Dunlap Police Officers responded to Wal-Mart on Hwy 127 in Dunlap in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival the victim stated that she had went into the business and upon returning to the parking lot she noticed that unknown persons had stolen four of the center hubcaps off of her vehicle. Officers located a witness to the incident who stated an individual had taken the items and placed them into a Ford Taurus, which was still parked in the parking lot of the business.

 

Officers located the owner of the Ford Taurus who was identified as Jimmy G Millican, 38 years of age of Palmer, Tennessee. Upon searching the vehicle, Officers discovered the four center hubcaps. Millican was arrested and while being searched the officers discovered him to be illegally in possession of prescription medication.

 

Millican was transported to the Sequatchie County Justice Center and charged with theft under $500.00 and possession of Schedule IV drugs. He is scheduled to appear in Dunlap Municipal Court on December 8th, 2009. Dunlap Police Officers investigating the incident were Patrolman Robert Raber and Detective Cody Smith.

 

 

Saturday, December 5, 2009

 

At approximately 9:15 P.M. Dunlap Police Officer Lynn Lewis responded to a single vehicle traffic crash on Valley View Drive in Dunlap. Upon arrival the officer discovered that James Powell, 30 years of age of Dunlap, had lost control of his vehicle and drove into a ditch. Powell did not receive any injuries in the crash.

 

The officer observed that Powell was displaying signs of possible intoxication and field sobriety tests were conducted. Powell was also found to be illegally in possession of prescription medication. Powell was arrested for D.U.I., possession of Schedule II drugs and possession of Schedule IV drugs and transported to the Sequatchie County Justice Center. He is scheduled to appear in Dunlap Municipal Court on February 9th, 2010

During the early morning hours of Sunday, December 6th, 2009 Dunlap Police Officers discovered that unknown persons had vandalized numerous businesses and residences in Dunlap. It appeared that the persons had shot both vehicles and buildings with a paint ball gun. There were approximately twelve business and numerous residences vandalized. It appeared that the vandalism was limited to pink paint ball markings.

 

The location of the vandalism was in the area of West Valley Road, Hwy 28, Rankin Ave South, Cherry Street and Elm Street. Dunlap Police Detective Cody Smith is continuing to investigate the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dunlap Police Department.
