There is a resolution that will be voted on in the Presidential Primary. If approved this resolution would increase the local option sales tax 2.25 to 2.75. Increased taxation is never popular item within its self however the State of Tennessee has the option of imposing this tax upon each county and if so done would mean that the dollars collected would go to Nashville to be used for State Government. If the resolution passes at the request of local government then the revenue will be used locally and not shared with the rest of the State of Tennessee. The break down is as follows: 72 cents of each dollar would go to the school system, 16 cents to the City of Dunlap and 12 cents to County Government. To put it in proper perceptive a 100 dollar purchase would see and additional 50 cents sale tax revenue generated. There are certain state limits such as food that would remain fixed and not be included in the increase. The governor’s office has proposed a decreased rate on food for the next fiscal year a move that we support.
This resolution is one that is proactive so that we will not have to be reactive if the State of Tennessee selects to use this option. The County Executive, City Mayor and Chamber of Commerce supports this resolution and ask that you seriously support this for the better of our community.
We were pleased to see that Backdraft’s Donut Station has added soup & sandwiches to their menu and will continue make menu adjustments as seasons change . The choice of soups will change daily and the sandwich menu will be constant with the exception of items that are on daily bases only.
