Cry Out America
Also at Sequatchie County Courthouse !
Remember 9-11This is presented by Awakening America Alliance. It will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the local county courthouse from 12 noon to 1 p.m. This is free to the community.
In light of the danger to Bible believing Christians in this country, particularly from foreign cultures and religions, we are asking Christians to come to the Rhea County Court House at noon this Saturday, Sept. 11 and join in an hour of prayer and asking the Lord to have mercy on our nation. The theme is Psalm 61:5: “…thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name…” This prayer meeting was begun because of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11 and has been supported by various organizations, including the Awakening America Alliance. The hour is crucial for Christians to make a public show of their intent to stand by God and the Bible. Please join us in this solemn hour for prayer and singing.

This is the trend that was predicted in the earliest Tattler polls. People had made their minds up before any campaigning. Factors in elections including voter turnout have an impact on elections.
Voter turnout was 43.19%Not a great number but with the factors involved it was pretty good. I would like to see these elections in November and then turnout would be better. The perceived benefit to voting would go up if the Governor and federal seats were not primary elections.
Voter turnout factors: PB + D > C
- Probability (usually small if not skewed, this is a multiplier ) P
- Perceived Benefit (campaign promises or how much will voting benefit the individuals and their causes) B
- Civic Duty or Gratification (Weather and gas prices for example. Ergo Personal Cost) C
P times B plus D must be greater than C
Voter turnout is a good indicator of peoples trust of the system or trust in the legitimacy of the system. I voted but do not trust the machines.
Congratulations to all candidates for becoming great Americans and seeking office.

The Sequatchie County Memorial Park now has a new headquarters in the old Bum Cooley gas station near Win Bob Drive-In Restaurant and across from Rite Aide.
The committee now has memorial bricks for sale and on display for viewing at a cost of $50.00. Also, available are shirts or caps for a donation of $15.00 or more. All proceeds will be used for completion of the project. The site is being compacted by rains over times and in the near future forms will be constructed and concrete footings will be poured. Several questions have been asked concerning who will be remembered at this site. All veterans living or deceased will have a place on the memorial wall. Any veteran that can provide the government form DD214 or a family member of a deceased vet can provide papers of discharge to the committee for review. There is now an established address for the Sequatchie County Memorial Park and the address is 858 Cordell Drive, Dunlap, TN. 37327 Any questions or donations may be directed to chairman Tommy Hickey at 949-4823 or the Chamber of Commerce at 949-7608.
The festival committee met July 12th and 18 members were present. Co-Chair Ron Follett presided at the meeting. The main emphasis was to establish a committee structure that would allow each committee the autonomy to do their work and be included in the project with over sight by the steering committee. There is still much to do and places for as many individuals to participate in this evolving project.
There is an edited version DVD of the 4th of July parade available at Chamber of Commerce and City Hall that is 1 ½ hour long. The price for the DVD is $15.00. This video is an HD that was collected from three camera locations that were operating during the parade.
The web site for the new Sequatchie County-Dunlap Chamber of Commerce and City of Dunlap is now published to the web and maybe seen at www.sequatchie.com. This site will remain under construction and improvements for a few weeks.

Sheriff Hitchcock Answers Sheriffs Candidate Questions
I congratulate candidate Hitchcock for having the courage to answer the questions that the voters have posed. This is a groundbreaking process for Dunlap Tennessee. Thank you for participating in the democratic process.
1. With an area of 250 square miles to patrol and not enough deputies for that size county and the terrain, what would you cut in the Sheriff’s budget to be able to afford more patrol deputies?
That theory has a nice ring to it, but it will not work. Unfortunately there is not a way to cut the operations portion of the budget in order to increase funds in the salary line items. Let me explain.
The entire purpose of the operations budget is to SUPPORT the personnel. If you add deputies, you then must add more funds to the operations budget, not cut it. There’s social security, unemployment insurance, Medicare and health insurance. Pay for fringe benefits such as vacation, holiday and employee sick time. Then you have uniforms, handguns, bullet resistant vests, patrol cars, radios, ammunition, training…I’m sure you get the idea. To think you can cut here to spend there within the same budget is naive. You can’t rob Peter to pay Paul. Every penny is allocated for a purpose, and every penny is needed. There is no magical “slush fund” in the Sheriff’s budget.
There are those who suggest taking from the jail budget to use in the Sheriff’s budget. Sorry, that can’t be done either. You can’t cross budgets, and if you could that would only short change the jail, so in the long run you’d be no better off. I wish I had an easy answer for how to afford more deputies, but cutting operations to pay salaries is not it.

Question:
1. With an area of 250 square miles to patrol and not enough Deputies for that size County and the terrain, what would you cut in the Sheriff’s budget to be able to afford more Patrol Deputies?
Answer:
If elected I would like to better control the spending of overtime monies to help save taxpayers their valuable tax dollars during these extremely hard economic times. Money is tight on everyone these days and taxpayers are having to tighten their belts just to get by. I believe that the Sheriff’s Office should also tighten its belt to assist the County Commission in saving money and decrease the chances of having to raise taxes on the citizens of Sequatchie County.
